What is a Digital X-Ray?
A digital x-ray is similar to a digital photograph. The x-ray is taken using a sensor that relays the image to a computer screen.
What will a patient experience while taking a Digital X-Ray?
Taking a digital x-ray is much like taking a traditional x-ray. The main difference is that instead of an x-ray film being inserted into the patient’s mouth, a small sensor, similar in size to an x-ray film, is inserted. Then an x-ray technician will snap the x-ray and the image will almost instantly appear onto a computer screen.
What are the benefits of a Digital X-Ray?
- Digital x-rays expose patients to up to 90 percent less radiation.
- Digital x-rays can be magnified and colorized on the computer screen to better show patients any areas of concern.
- Digital x-rays do not need to be developed in a dark room so they save time for both the patient and the dental staff.
- Digital x-rays do not require any chemicals to process and therefore are environmentally friendly.
